SCALABLE ROBUST 5G SA NETWORK FUNCTIONS
5G SA solutions
Take advantage of our flexible 5G SA solutions and cost-effectively deliver advanced services for your partners and customers.
Transform your operations and service portfolio
5G SA delivers an entirely new level of agility for services and their management, driving efficiencies and new opportunities.
Proven technology
Our solutions are proven in deployments globally, both individually and as a complete core – so you can migrate from legacy solutions or start from scratch with greenfield operations and grow with demand.
Benefit from the power of full 5G
5G Standalone provides an entirely new core network, optimised for the new generation of differentiated services – including Voice over New Radio (VoNR), data, and messaging. Migrate from 5G NSA or build out a greenfield network with WTL’s complete range of solutions – a complete core, supporting advanced data processing and efficient operations.
High-speed packet routing
The User Plane Function manages all data routing, providing the link between user devices and external data networks, across different slices.
Control and User Plane Separation
With CUPS, the UPF ensures that user plane data is routed correctly and enables low-latency capabilities for URLLC services. With Edge UPF deployments, you can deliver optimised data management for key services and partners.
Scalable service evolution
WTL’s UPF enables you to efficiently process data, with capacity for 20 Gbps for each instance – so you can build out a complete data fabric as your traffic and service demand grows. Deploy in the core or distribute to the edge, so you can support any kind of 5G service and slice with optimised performance.

UPF
Session Management Function
The SMF controls user data sessions from devices in the RAN. It determines which UPF is selected for data handling and provides routing instructions.
Dynamic session control
Fully compliant to 3GPP standards and the SBA, WTL’s SMF is central to the control plane, delivering the session management you need to deliver advanced services and to manage mobility effectively in your network.
Policy management, analytics and more
The SMF is essential for setting and enforcing policies, with QoS management and application-level granularity – enabling more effective service differentiation and monetisation. The visibility into each session provides analytics and insights for proactive service assurance, supporting operations to meet your SLAs and customer expectations.

Access and Mobility Management Function
The AMF is the heart of mobility management in the 5GC, handling access across multiple carriers and enabling network slicing.
Device registration and authentication
All non-access stratum (NAS) control information is managed through the AMF, with UE connectivity monitored to ensure services can be accessed when required. The AMF ensures control plane data is routed to the appropriate NF, according to policies and slice requests.
Crucial for slice management
By enabling connectivity to specific slices, the AMF is central to differentiated, QoS-dependent services, enabling you to offer valuable performance guarantees, backed by the security you need to meet governance procedures. WTL’s AMF supports all necessary functional and resilience requirements, providing a complete solution.

AMF
Policy Control Function
A significant evolution from the PCRF and reinforcing separation of enforcement from policy decisions, the PCF is key to differentiated services and QoE.
Build out enhanced services
Different policies and rules can be applied per service, which means a UE can easily access the resources required by a given application. With the PCF, you can design and launch truly differentiated services, at scale, to enable effective monetisation of your investments.
Performance to match your ambitions
Offering high processing capabilities, WTL’s PCF offers you the scale you need to expand and enrich your service portfolio. Fully leverage the capabilities of 5G by targeting low latency applications, vertical and industrial sectors – or enable new partnerships with specialised requirements. WTL’s solution allows you to build compelling propositions.

PCF
Network Repository Function
All 5GC Network Functions and their capabilities must be registered in the NRF to enable them to be accessed to support each active service.
Enabling dynamic configuration and scale
Capacity and capability management are integral to the 5GC. The NRF supports load balancing and capacity management, in real-time, while also enabling service conditions to be managed during sessions when different slices are required, and protecting security.
Accelerates service launch
The NRF gives you complete control over the performance and security of your 5GC and the deployed NFs, so it’s fundamental to managing a diverse and differentiated service portfolio. Instantly register new NFs and integrate them into your core, allowing dedicated resources to be allocated and new propositions dynamically configured.

Authentication Server Function for AKMA
The AUSF plays a key role in securing the 5GC and supports the complete AKMA workflow for persistent UE authentication and service access.
Enhanced security for UE admission
3GPP specified new protocols for authenticating UEs and the services they can access on first registration with the mobile network – extending existing 4G methods to deliver enhanced protection. Subscription identifiers are encrypted and keys are created for each session.
3GPP and non-3GPP access control
WTL’s AUSF fully complies with the enhanced 3GPP procedures, providing authentication for both 3GPP and non-3GPP access. Because further keys can be derived from the root session key or KUASF, UEs can easily be admitted to different applications – and different AFs can use this central authentication service, without the cost of further validation.

Network Slice Selection Function
Network slices are a foundational innovation unlocked by 5G SA – to capitalise on differentiated and premium offers, you need flexible, dynamic slice control.
Agile slice delivery
With WTL’s NSSF, slices can be allocated to user sessions based on both policies and requests from applications and devices – delivering the performance to meet specific demands, contexts and situations, and enabling mobility between slices.
Performance for demanding services
Like all WTL’s 5G core NFs, the NSSF is built to meet the cloud-native performance and resilience demands of services that can be delivered to different verticals, consumers and businesses, fully aligned with 3GPP standards and security considerations. It’s key to providing a robust portfolio of differentiated 5G services.

Unified Data Management
The UDM function replaces the HSS from the HSS in 4G and provides a new way of managing user profiles and subscriptions, working in tandem with the UDR.
Comprehensive user and device security
5G brings enhanced security to protect user and UE identities for which the UDM is a key element. It interacts with the AUSF to ensure identities are hidden and encrypted, while also protecting the network from unauthorised users and devices.
Centralised subscription data
Brining all subscription information together and making it accessible to other NFs in the 5GC, the UDM enables you to control network access and determine the capabilities granted to different users and devices, based on their profiles. It also consolidates in- and outbound roaming service data, supporting your roaming business.

Unified Data Repository
Centralised, secure storage of all subscriber data, their profiles and the services they can access, with SBIs to other NFs in the 5GC.
High performance for agile service delivery
WTL’s UDR function offers the scalability and performance architecture to meet demanding service delivery for your subscribers. Deployable as a standalone UDR or alongside other instances, it provides a robust solution for data management.
Support 5G automation and efficiency
By consolidating all necessary data, the UDR offers retrieval and storage functions for other NFs and related systems, providing a key enabler for network automation. It supports efficient operations in the SBA and supports your data governance programmes, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and external regulations, protecting your business.
